To work across Channel 4 News digital platforms, focusing on high impact digital-first content as part of the award-winning FactCheck team. To produce high quality written and visual journalism for new platforms. To secure maximum impact for Channel 4 News’ digital and television material online. This role may include shift work and weekend work, and travel.

Responsibilities:

• Work across Channel 4 News digital platforms – with a focus on original, insightful and explainer-driven FactCheck content that engages younger UK audiences
• Script videos and write online articles showcasing original and informative FactCheck journalism, testing the claims of politicians and public figures, as well as providing clear-eyed, well-informed explanation of the biggest stories of the day
• Produce original stories, sometimes driven by exclusive data and statistical analysis, interviews and coverage across a wide range of social media platforms and the website
• To bring in distinctive, exclusive stories that meet the high editorial standards of Channel 4 News, pitched at a digital-first audience
• Show distinctive judgement about digital storytelling – with confidence about what elements will resonate with an online audience and what will perform well in the medium
• Generate ideas for stories and multimedia coverage
• Write and edit news stories and blogs for the website
• Maintain the highest standards of spelling, punctuation and grammar
• Provide imaginative treatments for complex stories and present complex ideas simply and in a compelling manner
• Ensure stories are accurate and comply with the law and relevant regulations
• Work in accordance with ITN guidelines on health and safety in the office and in the field
• Occasionally work on the output, news-desk or other teams if required following training
• Occasionally work in the field, at home and abroad, during breaking news

Qualifications:

• A digital native who works to the highest editorial standards
• Proven track record in finding high impact stories, including original stories, or working in a similar field outside of journalism with complex projects
• Confidence in handling statistics and experience in using them to drive and illuminate stories, or to provide new insight
• An experienced professional who adheres to the highest standards of accuracy and attention to detail around often complex and controversial material
• Good interpersonal skills, team player with personal authority and the ability to act as a senior colleague supporting others
• Knowledge of news and current affairs
• High-quality news judgement, editorial creativity and imagination
• Ability to work autonomously and under own initiative
• Flair for expressing stories visually and an excellent writing ability
• Experience working in video production and editing is desirable but not required
• Highly developed understanding of complex legal situations and understanding of ITN Legal Compliance procedures
• Understanding of Channel 4 News agenda
• Calm under pressure with the ability to adapt and be flexible in task and role
• Ability to work to a deadline
• Play an authoritative role in team editorial meetings presenting ideas in a persuasive manner
• Act with responsibility and common sense in the field and office, in compliance with ITN’s Health and Safety Policies
