Description

Senior Corporate Communications Manager

Salary: £40,750 - £46,150 per annum (inclusive of all allowances) depending on experience.

The Barbican is one of the world’s leading arts and learning organisations, welcoming over a million visitors and hundreds of artists every year. We are both a civic space for our local communities and a multi-platform venue showcasing the best artists, musicians, directors and actors to global audiences. This year we mark forty years since we first opened and as we look to the future, our ambition – as expressed through our new creative vision – is to be a place for artistic exchange, inspiration and learning where everyone feels welcome.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to lead our corporate communications function, working on campaigns targeting both external and internal audiences, to support and enable our transformation agenda. You’ll work on vital topics including our exiting plans for the renewal of our iconic building, our sustainability strategy, and our essential work on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

You’ll report directly to, and deputise for, the Head of Communications, and manage a small team of three – although this could be increased depending on future requirements. Working with your team, it will be your role to develop and deliver creative communications strategies and campaigns to engage our staff, stakeholders and the media on how the Barbican is tackling some of the most important issues of the day. You’ll also provide communications support for our commercial business teams (events, retail, hospitality) and for our fundraising teams.

You’ll work seamlessly with our marketing and digital teams to ensure communications strategies, campaigns and tactics are fully integrated across all channels. And you’ll build strong relationships with key stakeholders including in local and national government and the local, national and international cultural sector.

Our ideal candidate will be confident working with media and a wide range of stakeholders. A strategic thinker, you will have demonstrable experience of objective setting and evaluation, and using results to further refine and improve campaign plans. You’ll also be a dynamic and committed team leader, and a confident and diplomatic communicator. Experience and knowledge of the arts or wider cultural sector would be a clear advantage.

As part of our commitment to increasing the diversity of staff within the Barbican we are particularly keen to encourage applications from people from groups that are currently underrepresented, including people from Global Majority* backgrounds and disabled people. In recognising the positive value of diversity, we want to better reflect and understand the communities we exist to serve. Furthermore, we are members of the Disability Confident Scheme and guarantee to interview all disabled candidates who would like to be considered under this scheme and who meet the minimum essential criteria for the role. If you have a disability and need adjustments to the application process, please let us know.

Closing date: 12 Noon, 10 October 2022.
