It includes full responsibility for all National Trust aspects of budget management and event logistics, including planning, operational management and delivery. Since making its debut in 2017, Christmas at Dunham Massey has developed into a must-see, magical after dark experience for tens of thousands of visitors. As Event Manager you'll be working closely with colleagues, production company, promoter and suppliers to ensure the continued successful development and delivery of the event.

Working hours are annualised and variable but strongly weighted towards the September to January period when regular evening and weekend working will be required. We envisage this to look approximately:

  • 15 hours per week February to June
  • 22.5 hours per week July to August
  • 37.5 hours per week September to January.

What it's like to work here

Dunham Massey is a 3,000-acre estate situated approximately 10 miles south of central Manchester and three miles south of Altrincham. Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford, gave it to the National Trust in 1976 and today it attracts over 500,000 visitors a year. This elegant Georgian mansion, set within a magnificent 300 acre deer park and including one of Britain’s finest winter gardens, is a very popular visitor attraction with over 100 staff. The busy team has a strong commercial focus and a fast-paced environment. Within the park walls there is also a shop, café, restaurant and ice cream parlour. On the wider estate, there are 20 farms, 100 cottages, a golf course and an award winning housing development. The house, garden and parkland hide many layers of history and have many stories to tell.

What you'll be doing

Planning and development of the event to ensure consistently high standards of delivery.

Day to day venue operational management including the rig, event and de-rig periods.

Ensuring that Dunham's buildings and landscape receive the appropriate protection, minimising impact on the property and the core daytime visitor experience. Developing measures to build greater resilience into the physical infrastructure, event systems and processes and the property teams, mitigating risks and making plans to address business recovery.

Operational line management responsibility for small number of staff (2-3) and volunteers (approx. 20) during the event period only. Using strong people skills to establish good working relationships with property colleagues, event partners and suppliers.

Responsibility for full compliance with relevant organisational systems and procedures, promoting awareness of health & safety and managing risk to ensure the safe and effective operation of the event at all times.

Working with central and local colleagues to improve sustainability and reduce the ecological impact of the trails.

Responsibility for delivery of a great visitor experience including a consistently high standard of presentation and a great Dunham welcome to all of our event visitors.
