Description

Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Listing Adviser to join our team here at Historic England. The role will be responsible for providing specialist designation advice and support to the Listing Team Leader and contribute to the delivery of a designation service in the north of England, to corporate and group priorities whilst also managing people as appropriate.

What you will be doing.

You will be responsible for assessing candidates for designation across the spectrum of the historic environment, in particular the more complex and sensitive cases in the team, providing accurate and timely specialist advice to agreed standards, formats, deadlines and procedures.

You will work with equal ease on responsive casework or strategic projects under the Historic England Action Plan (HEAP) and Enhanced Advisory Services, undertaking consultation with regional Development Advice and Partnership Teams and Communications and Public Engagement to ensure corporate handling.

You will deliver recommendations to the Team Leader that securely combines assessment and consultation, flagging contentious or controversial cases as early as possible, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated and external interests and perceptions taken into account.

You will support the Team Leader through duty cover and other agreed mechanisms, mentoring Assistant Advisers, and, where specified by the Team Leader, to have line management responsibilities for team members and to work with the Development Advice and Partnership Teams to ensure alignment of designation activity with agreed priorities, including Heritage Action Zones, and to build cross-working relationships.

What we are looking for

  • Broad experience of working in the historic environment sector, and preferably the current designation regimes
  • Experience of, and expertise in, specialist assessment of the historic environment, including engagement with linked specialisms
  • Experience of building and maintaining partnerships in project work, and proven track record in managing projects
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external partners, and a commitment to championing the interest of the historic environment
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Experience in line management

Please ensure you highlight your experience, skills and capabilities based on the above criteria in your online application.
