Description

Are you interested in playing an important role in a key government Department that offers an exciting opportunity to be part of the decision making that affects the whole of the UK? We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Strategy, Planning and Projects Team.

This role is within the ‘Strategic Projects’ branch of the team, which is a flexible resource of around 50 staff that provides rapid support to the highest priority areas of Treasury work. Members of this team work on short projects (typically c3-4 months) covering all areas of the Treasury’s work. You might be responsible for preparing advice to ministers on issues that require additional staff for an effective response, helping to shape how the department responds to a complex issue, or providing project management skills to aid delivery.

What you will bring to the team:

This is an exciting and varied role suitable for somebody who is able to pick up new content quickly and use their skills to deliver priority outcomes for the department.

The postholder responsibilities are:

  • To scope, plan and deliver projects for a broad range of teams across the Treasury, building the relationships and contextual awareness necessary to deliver results. The post-holder can expect to rotate to a new role approximately four times a year, and will often hold management responsibilities in their project work.
  • To develop knowledge and understanding of the department’s main policy areas, and the skills required to work in a project role.
  • To lead one of two teams based in Darlington that provides support to the highest priority Treasury policy areas, working closely with a Darlington-based Deputy Director.
  • To play an active role in the leadership of the Strategy, Planning and Projects team, and help with the continued development of a Darlington-based Strategic Projects unit. All staff in Darlington at this grade are also asked to play an important role in the development of the Campus.

The Darlington Economic Campus is a pioneering new cross-government hub which will bring together people across departments and public organisations to play an active role in the most important issues of the day. The work of the Campus will make a real difference to people both UK and internationally. There will be substantial career opportunities and exciting prospects - a career at the Campus means you will be working at the heart of Government, with access to the benefits and fantastic opportunities offered by the civil service. This role is based at HM Treasury and we will be joined on the campus by:
