English Graduate - Learning Support Assistant - Croydon

TimePlan Education are working on behalf of an 11-18 academy in Croydon who are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic English Graduate to work as a Learning Support Assistant who is keen to make a positive difference in the lives of children. The role is a full-time appointment to begin immediately.

You will be required to work with individual children, having special or particular needs, in accordance with the child's statement where appropriate and/or groups of children as directed by the teacher. You will also provide support to the SEN Manager/Principal/Teacher across a range of child-centred activities to promote child development and learning.

Applicants must have a minimum of 2 GCSE's to include English and Maths from grade 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent or be able to demonstrate a willingness to work towards achieving these qualifications. The ability to travel between the two campuses is considered essential.

GRADUATES: If you are a graduate and considering a career in teaching, then a Learning Mentor position could be the ideal way to gain classroom experience and decide if education is right for you. As a graduate, you would undertake the role, normally in your specialist subject area, and work closely with a mentor to maximise your learning.

The Special Educational Needs (SEN) department, is integral to the ongoing success of this school, and the Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) are a vital part of the team. They are implementing a number of innovative and exciting changes and are looking for an excellent LSA to join them. You will become part of a positive, aspirational and fun team that values the contribution of its LSA's immensely and help us to help KS3 and KS4 SEN students to fulfil their potential.

Training can be provided and ongoing professional development will be encouraged.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Working with individuals or small groups of children in collaboration with teaching staff
  • Proactively supporting students with activities designed to enhance numeracy and literacy
  • Supporting SEN students in gaining the ability to utilise IT in the classroom
  • Promoting positive behaviour, raising esteem and encouraging an aspirational culture
  • Working with SEN students to foster their development as independent learners.
