Job Description: Drum Kit Teacher

Purpose: To teach pupils across the full age and ability range present in the school in order to ensure the highest possible standards of pupil achievement, personal development and well being

Responsible to: Head of Music

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To be committed to and to promote the school’s vision, aims, objectives and values
2. To be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, there will be a high involvement in regulated activity relevant to children. Please see our Child Protection Policy;
3. To maintain and contribute to the development of school policies
4. To fulfil all directed commitments as required by the Head of Music
5. To assess, in co-operation with the Head of Music and Headteacher
6. To teach pupils in groups and individually
7. To plan and keep accurate records of lessons, pupil progress and achievement, keep accurate attendance registers and other such records
8. To have and continue to update a thorough knowledge of teaching methods and repertoire and to be able to advise pupils and the school about suitable repertoire and teaching material.
9. Within a holistic music education approach, teach and encourage good technique, posture and stylistic awareness of drum techniques.
10. To advise and encourage pupils to take advantage of appropriate musical activities such as choirs, ensembles and other musical opportunities.
11. To prepare pupils, when and where appropriate, for the requirements of Trinity College of Music or Rock School examinations
12. To be aware of the individual needs’ of pupils by liaising with Head of Music and parents
13. To prepare pupils for performances at concerts
14. To take part in performances with students and other instrumental staff at concerts
15. To teach rock band and arrange music for and teach a mixed ability drum group
16. To attend meetings as directed by the Head of Music
17. To practice and uphold school policies

OTHER DUTIES

All staff are required to participate in training and other learning activities and in performance management and development, as required by the school’s policies and practices.

To comply with any reasonable requests from a leader/manager to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in the job description.

The job description is current at the date shown, but in consultation with you, may be changed by the Headteacher to meet changing regulations or circumstances. These would be commensurate with the grade and title of the post.
