Description

Project Manager
£29,000 per year
Full-time, 35 hours per week
Fixed term contract for one year
Based in London / flexible and home working

Our client is on a mission to give children and young people from disadvantaged communities the reading and writing skills to succeed in life. You could join them as Project Manager for their programme helping young people.

What you’ll be doing

The programme works with primary and secondary schools to inspire pupils to write. You will be responsible for developing and delivering a number of projects across the UK, promoting poetry and writing to young people in areas of deprivation. The programmes use cultural venues, professional writers and key cultural partners to help pupils explore their creative writing skills and inspire them to write more.

You will be responsible for all aspects of project delivery, including recruitment of schools, content development, training, safeguarding, risk management, event management and quality assurance.

You will be based in our client’s school programmes directorate and work in a small team that is responsible for delivering the programme. While their office is in London, their flexible working culture means you will be able to work primarily from home, if you prefer. You will also need to travel regularly to project locations to support programme delivery and training.

What our client is looking for

As well as being an excellent project manager, you will need good stakeholder management skills to work with a wide range of partners. You will also need knowledge of creative writing practice within schools or further education, and experience of working with young people.

Experience of working with cultural venues or professional writers would be an advantage.

Why our client’s work is so vital

Poor reading and writing skills and resulting inequality are not inevitable. Our client improves the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills of those who need it most, giving them the best possible chance of success.

Our client make society fairer. Poor reading and writing skills create social and economic inequality. The one in six adults in the UK with poor reading and writing skills earn less, are less likely to vote and more likely to experience health inequalities.

They enable social mobility. A child without reading and writing skills can’t succeed at school, and as an adult they will be locked out of the job market. The pattern is intergenerational and starts at birth.

Our client’s work is targeted at communities with the highest levels of disadvantage and the lowest levels of reading and writing skills.

What our client will offer you

As well as a competitive salary, they offer benefits including a generous leave allowance totalling 39 days (including bank holidays and office closure between Christmas and New Year), pension contributions of 8% of annual salary, a cycle to work scheme, employee assistance programme and other health and wellbeing benefits.

They support flexible working and promote a workplace where you can be yourself and contribute to their success, whoever you are.
